Getting Teachers and Students Involved
Since the 2008 release of TappCore, Teresa Tapp has offered free copies of this special DVD to schools in Florida in an effort to get the teachers and students involved in fitness.  Florida budget cuts have caused schools to limit the amount of Physical Education classes that are offered.  Unfortunately, the students are not getting enough physical activity.  Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, certain types of cancer, and type 2 diabetes. With rising obesity and diabetes numbers of children and adults alike in the United States, fitness is a necessary component to weight management. 

From the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention:

One of the Key Strategies to prevent obesity at the school is to increase opportunities for students to engage in physical activity.

The percentage of children who are obese has more than doubled, and among adolescents the rates have more than tripled since 1980. Obesity is a risk factor for health conditions such as diabetes and is associated with problems such as poor self-esteem. The good news is that schools can help students and staff adopt healthy eating and physical activity behaviors that are the keys to preventing obesity.

Diabetes now affects nearly 24 million people in the United States, an increase of more than 3 million in approximately two years, according to new 2007 prevalence data estimates released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This means that nearly 8 percent of the U.S. population has diabetes.

In addition to the 24 million with diabetes, another 57 million people are estimated to have pre-diabetes, a condition that puts people at increased risk for diabetes.

 

Teresa knows how a supportive teacher can make all the difference in the life of a child.  That's why she developed the TappCore DVD to be “teacher friendly” - easy to use without taking more than a few minutes from instructional time. Fitness & Fun
Teresa Tapp really wanted to reach out to the schools and get everyone involved, including the teachers.  In 2008 T-Tapp hosted a Hoe Down Showdown at two schools in Florida; Pine View Elementary and Sunray Elementary.  Well, it worked!  Everyone got involved, had fun and did a bunch of Hoe Downs.  Click here to read more about the Hoe Down Showdown.
